Category: Let's talk
Hi everyone,
I know this is probably in the wrong catigory, but I hope someone can help me out. I just bought five books from Audible, and I'm trying to figure out how to convert them into MP3's so I can play them on my player. Right now, they're .aa files. Does anyone know of a way I can do this?
Thanks so much.
I would like to know how to do this too. Thanks
I might be wrong on this, but here goes.
Audible supports all kinds of plugins via Audible Manager, so that most devices as far as I'm aware are supported.
Turning these files into MP3s would necessitate something illegal, as MP3s are not, to my knowledge, capable of supporting DRM. This means that to turn an Audible purchase into an MP3 is breaking the law. It probably shouldn't be discussed here.
If I'm actually wrong on this, someone set me straight. I'd hate to scare someone off over nothing. But this is my understanding of it, and I'd rather wave the caution flag than have you end up getting in trouble with the site. There aren't many things this site doesn't like, but illegal downloading and such is definitely on the radar.
I bought the books, I only wanted to turn them into MP3 for my own personal use.
I do see where you're coming from, but there's so many ways to do it online. I'm just looking for an accessible one.
Oh well.
I think you can do it by putting them on cd first and then re-ripping them to your computer, but don't quote me. you can also always listen to them on your computer with winamp or windows media player.
Stained, have you contacted Audible about it, or the compatibility? They might be able to help.
I'm on an email list for discussing books, and many of the people there use audible. So I have put your question out there and will let you know if I find out anything helpful.
Stay tuned.
@blue velvet:
Thanks for doing that, I appreciate it.
One person on the book list said that audible has info on their website about eligible players.
Another person said the following:
Here’s the deal with Audible: when you sign up, you have to tell them what player (specifically, by serial number) you are going to use—Victor Stream is one, the NLS player is not. So you give them the serial number of your Stream. Then the books are playable only on that player that you specified. You can specify more than one eligible player—your IPhone, for instance, and your Stream, or your iPhone and your desktop.
This prevents you from giving your Audible books to anyone else, and it also, by an agreement you sign when you join, keeps you from converting your Audible books to regular MP3 files.
I'm trying to play them on my NLS player, but it'll only play mp3's. I see Audible books on torrent all the time as mp3's, so there's got to be a way to do it. lol
Thank you for your answer though.
I've been told there is a way, but since Audible would consider that illegal, the person didn't know, and didn't want to know, how to do it.
SoundTaxi may be able to do this. It's not free though there is a trial version.
The audible torrents you see are illegal as hell. If they've been converted in such a way that they can be listened to by anyone, on any device, then the DRM has been removed, and I'm like 99% sure that's illegal as far as Audible is concerned.
